Birgit Nilsson e Hans Knappertsbusch

Birgit Nilsson ( 1918-2005) - extraordinária cantora sueca que marcou toda a sua geração enão só. A sua estréia americana deu-se em 1956, como Isolda, na Ópera de San Francisco. Foi aclamada no mesmo papel em 1959, no Metropolitan Opera House de Nova Iorque. Estreou em Bayreuth no mesmo ano como Elsa em Lohengrin. Cantou o dificílimo papel de Isolda mais de 200 vezes (Nilsson costumava, jocosamente, dizer que o requisito mais importante para se cantar Isolde era um "bom par de sapatos", devido à quantidade de tempo que a personagem se mantém em cena ao longo da ópera). Em Wagner, também se destacou como Brünnhilde e Sieglinde.
Aqui fica um excerto no papel de Isolda, Liebestod.

Levou 2 Óscares. O argumento foi de Fredric M. Frank, Barré Lyndon, Theodore St. John
Intérpretes: Betty Hutton (Holly), Cornel Wilde (The Great Sebastian),Charlton Heston (Brad Braden),Dorothy Lamour (Phyllis), e James Stewart.
É um belo filme.

The Road to Yesterday (1925), filme realizado por Cecil B. DeMille, com Joseph Schildkraut, um dos actores com os quais DeMille realizou vários filmes ( O Rei dos Reis, Cleópatra, estre outros).
Filme importante, com argumentistas de peso:Beulah Marie Dix, Howard Hawks, Jeanie Macpherson, Evelyn Greenleaf Sutherland. A fotografia foi do extraordinário Peverell Marley.

Uma lição de canto de Kirsten Flagstad (1950)

Kirsten Flagstad fala sobre cantar a música de Richard Wagner.
Kirsten Flagstad (1895 —  1962) foi um dos mais importantes sopranos noruegueses da primeira metade do século XX.Em 1933 participou no importante Festival de Bayreuth, e voltou a cantar no teatro em papéis mais importantes, como Sieglinde (Die Walküre) e Gutrune (Götterdämmerung). Em 1935, cantou a Sieglinde no MET, e obteve um excepcional sucesso na sua estreia. Durante o período da Segunda Guerra Mundial, em 1941, Kirsten Flagstad voltou para a Noruega, então ocupada pelos nazis. Com o fim da guerra, o marido foi preso por ter colaborado com os nazistas, e a cantora viu-se rejeitada pelo público, que acreditava que ela também era uma colaboradora do regime de Hitler.
Ainda hoje é considerada um dos maiores sopranos wagnerianos de todos os tempos...
